Winona Ryder professionally Winona Ryder was born on Winona Minnesota. It was her parents in honor of the town in which her birthplace was. Michel Horowitz was her father as well as Cynthia Palmer, his mother who were both authors as well as editors. Ryder's dad was born into an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. Ryder is the younger sister of Uria and two half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder's family moved to Mendocino County to California in the year she turned seven young. They didn't have electricity. Ryder was an avid bookworm and spent most of her time reading books as she didn't have a TV. Ryder at the age of 12 took up a place at the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in the year 1983. When she was in 1986, she had her first big-screen role in the film Lucas when she was just fifteen years old. Ryder was bullied in high school. Her hope was that her acting career would end her life. Sadly that didn't happen. She pursued her dream. Ryder made her breakthrough with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice in 1988. Ryder was able to continue her successful performances in a variety of films. Two Academy Awards were nominated, one of which was for The Age of Innocence (1996).
